All smiles as Sarah meets the Lloyd Webbers By BAZ BAMIGBOYE © Daily Mail
A SMILING Sarah Brightman hits just the right note as she meets Andrew Lloyd Webber and the woman who replaced her as his wife. The three were at a champagne supper at the Savoy Hotel when they met up, and Sarah and Madeleine laughed and talked like old friends. ‘I think we have a lot in common,’ Sarah joked.
Earlier they were both made to work for their supper at a charity gala held at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, to raise about £200,000 for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Sarah, who was divorced from the millionaire composer last year, sang a new song by her ex-husband, Free as a Bird which he composed especially for the RSPB fund raiser, Carnival for the Birds. Madeleine, who is the third Mrs Lloyd Webber, was one of the evening’s three hosts. The Opera House gala, organised by Wayne Sleep, included ballerina Darcey Bussell and stars from the Bolshoi Ballet. Most of them wore costumes designed by Jasper Conran and Anthony Price.
STRICTLY FOR THE BIRDS DAILY EXPRESS FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8 1991 BY Mary Corbett

They had flown in from all corners of the world to roost in the gilded surrounds of the Royal Opera House, Convent Garden London. For this was undoubtedly, a Carnival for the Birds.
It was a night when imagination and creativity took flight producing a dazzling extravaganza or music, fashion and dance watched by the Princess or Wales, and benefiting the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds by some £250,000.
Sarah Brightman fluttered in from Los Angeles to warble a new creation by her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber and quietly admitted she missed having a nest to land it.
I don’t have a home here anymore she chirped. It’s an extraordinary feeling arriving in my old home town and not having anywhere to stay.
Singing Lloyd Webber’s aptly entitled finale Free As A Bird Sarah clutched a a typewritten song sheet as she stepped on stage.
Andrew only faxed me the words a couple of days ago, she said to Lucy Ferry (wife of Bryan). (see photo)
Once at the lavish dinner in the Savoy ballroom Sarah found herself perched just a sparrow hop from Lloyd Webber and his new wife Madeleine.
Hardly surprising the conversation was centered around matters ornithological and the talents of dancer Wayne Steep, who directed the two-hour programme of classical ballet and contemporary dance.
As Sleep pirouetted around the tables with Royal Ballet principal Darcy Bussell organisers Nicola Formby and Lizzy Moberly looked on a trifle bemused. Nicola enlisted my sup port when I was trapped on a body toning table, Sleep said. How could I have refused in such a vulnerable position?
Discarding the usual fusty designs of the Royal Opera House.-the dancers donned exotic costume5 specially made by leading fashion gurus. Fashion designer of the year Vivienne Westwood provided six baby chicks and a mother hen, while Anthony Price transformed Russian ballerina Natalia Makarova into, a swan. Geogio Armani hatched a convincing peacock out of ballerina Rachel Whitbread and Jasper Conran looked on admiringly at his Bluebird of Delhi, Darcey Bussell.
We just hope the whole thing has made people a Jot more aware of birds and their plight? added Nicola Formby. With that the model cum TV presenter. flitted off on her round of goodbyes. I took her lead and winged my way home ...to roost. |

Sarah recorded this song as the theme to the play "Trelawney Of The Wells"
when she appeared in it in 1992. |

Frank Peterson at Sarah's Official Website mentioned that Sarah recorded a version of the theme from the film "Once Upon A Time In The West."
SBFly Webmaster Comments: That piece is written by Ennio Morriconne and it is vocalised.

Frank Peterson at Sarah's Official Website once talked about a song Sarah recorded for the "Timeless" (Time To Say Goodbye) Album. The song is called "Leolam" and is sung in Hebrew. The music was written by John Williams and is the theme for the film "Schindler's List". Sadly, Mr. Williams has declined permission for Sarah's vocal version of the piece to be released. Film producer / director Steven Spielberg also petitioned Mr. Williams to release the song, and both Sarah Brightman and Frank Peterson tried to get the song released on "Eden" and then "La Luna" but requests were denied.

Divas of the world fight it out to sing song of the centuryby John Harrow Arts Correspondent
THE SONG will be cheerful, tuneful and over the top. Some of the world's best-known divas, led by Barbra Streisand and Sarah Brightman, are lining up to perform the anthem for a new age to be sung during the royal opening of the Millennium Dome. The competition to perform the song, already being compared with Coca-Cola's global hit I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, is set to be as intense as the battle between Hollywood's golden era film stars to play Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With The Wind. The BBC hopes that the opening ceremony in 537 days' time could reach an audience of hundreds of millions. "It could overshadow the numbers watching both today's World Cup final and the Live Aid concert of 1985: that is serious exposure," said a BBC source last week. The New Millenniium Experience company, which runs the dome, is preparing to launch a national competition for the anthem over the next few weeks, but it has already been overwhelmed by composers eager to get onto the first bandwagon of the next century.
Matt Aitken and Mike Stock, the composers behind the pop hits of Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley, have written their submission called Bird In Flight. In a similar Style to Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, the hit ballad from the film Titanic, the climax of the big-scale orchestrated number are the words:
It seems like a new world
is about to start
Sarah Brightman, the former Lloyd Webber musical star, has recorded a demo version of Bird in Flight but she may have been scooped by Barbra Streisand. "Yes, Ms Streisand has requested a copy of the song, which she might sing on the appropriate occasion," confirmed a source in the singer's New York office.
Other superstars are being offered gigs at the dome. Paul McCartney is considering a request to reprise his symphonic work Standing Stone. Chris Smith, the culture secretary, has asked the dome organisers to try to book Elton John. Yet the anthem may spring from more humble origins. Amateur composers up and down the country have already made submissions. Many lyrics contain references to "new dawn", an image that dominates the logo designed for the Millennium Commission. Matthew Webster, the penname for a respected graduate from the Royal College of Music and university academic, recorded his offering with the Eton College choir last week. "I'm keeping a low profile to avoid mickey-taking. I wrote the music in a day, which is Elgarian with a trumpet fanfare, but the words took me months," he said. The first verse is:
O Land of freedom and
shores of peace
East London University, which is near the dome, is asking students to come up with their own millennial contenders. "It could be in the form of an African praise song, or an Indian raga, or a tune that combines such multicultural influences to reflect modern Britain," said Phil Cohen, the organiser.
Peter Mandelson, minister responsible for the dome, is close to ruling on the musical format for the celebrations. Plans include the anthem being played amid fireworks, and even an RAF fly-past to mark the opening.
It will be released initially as a single and then as the highlight of an album, Live at the Dome, to be recorded during musical events at Greenwich during the year 2000. Michael Nyman, the classical composer, said Mandelson had told him he was looking for something "musically serious". "But we shall see," Nymad said.
"We have some very good composers around at the moment, including Gavin Bryars and Mark-Anthony Turnage, whose work will last longer than the pop names that obsess the current government. It's our music that stands a chance of surviving into the next millennium."
Up to 80 children aged between 10 and 16 will be appointed "dome advisers" this week to suggest attractions for inside the dome. Initial ideas include more Sport, pop and a display dedicated to Lara Croft, the computer game heroine.

SHOCK - info THANKS TO Attila
The song was mislabelled, the tracks on the CD and cassette are: 1. Eden 2. So Many Things 3. Deliver Me 4. Lascia Ch'io Pianga 5. Nella Fantasia
So either the song does not really exist, it's had a name / language change or it was recorded twice - once as In Fondo Alla Mente and then as Nella Fantasia which was included on the eden album.
That might have been the original title and then when the song was released it was re-titled Nella Fantasia. In Fondo Alla Mente translates from Italian to: At the bottom of the Mind Nella Fantasia transalates to: In the Fantasy. This might help clear up some confusion about the song.

Sarah recorded "The Flower Drum Duet" for "Classics" but it was never released. It was held back due to a lot of recordings of this song being released at one time. |

Some Info and lyrics thanks to Jos Van Geffen |
This duet was included on two promo advance CD of Harem but was ultimately deleted from the final album. It has never been officially released, and now seems unlikely that it ever will be.
Paul Bateman did the arrangement in November 2002, "Where Eagles Fly" was recorded late 2002, but was unable to conduct the recording.
Between the world of earth and sky
All the years that passed never changed my
mind
Where eagles fly, I will wait for you
Here I'll pass the night
Loneliness will fade away
All the years that passed never changed my
mind
Between the world of earth and sky |

As we know now this song was not performed and so becomes a "Lost Song"
There seem to be rumours that there could be a song / duet with Sarah and another female singer called MiMi for the 2008 Olympics in China called "Peace and Harmony" Sarah and Mimi recorded a song for the Beijing Olympics. It is called " Peace and Harmony".
There are more contestants, so we have to wait and see who wins. Here is what the article said: "English Soprano Sarah Brightman and Chinese singer MiMi (Mi Cheung) have just subscribed their new duet, entitled "Peace and Harmony", to The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the 2008 Olympiad (BOCOG). The two singers recorded this song together with Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Choir."
