SARAH BRIGHTMAN

Sarah Brightman made her theatrical debut at the age of thirteen in "I and Albert" at the Piccadilly Theatre, London. At sixteen, she was a member of the dance group "Pan's People" and then at eighteen she joined the cast of "Cats" at the New London Theatre. In 1982 she premiered Charles Strouse's Opera for Children "The Nightingale" at the Buxton Festival, a role she repeated at The Lyric, Hammersmith. In 1985, she premiered Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Requiem" in New York and London which she received a Grammy nomination as Best New Classical Artiste. In the same year, she played the role of Valencienne in "The Merry Widow  for the Sadler's Wells Opera.

 

Sarah created the role of Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of The Opera which opened at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, in October 1986, and when she premiered the role in the Broadway production of the show in 1988, she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. In 1990 she played the part of Rose Vibert in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Aspects of Love", both in London and on Broadway.

 

In 1992 she played the name role of "Trelawny of the Wells" at the Comedy Theatre, before going to star in Noel Coward's "Relative Values at the 1993 Chichester Festival, which subsequently transferred to the Savoy Theatre in the West End.  At the end of 1994, she played Sally Driscoll in in Dangerous Obsession" followed by an appearance as Miss Giddens in "The-Innocents"" at Hay market Theatre.

 

Sarah Performs concerts in major Opera Houses, Concert Venues land Arenas all over America, Canada, Europe and has worked with many of the world's most renowned Conductors and Orchestras. She sang the 1992 Olympic Games theme song with Jose Carreras in Barcelona and has performed classical Concerts in Japan with Placido Domingo.

 

A successful recording artiste, Sarah's U.K. Top Ten singles include "I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper" in 1978; "Pie Jesu in 1985, "All I Ask Of You  in 1986; "Phantom of the Opera"  in 1987 and "Amigos Para Siempre" in 1992 with Jose Carreras. She had two Number One Albums in 1985 with "Requiem" in the Classical Charts, and "The Phantom of the Opera", and she is also featured on the Cast Albums of "The Nightingale" (1982) and "Song and Dance" (1984|) In early 1988, Sarah made a recording of the folk songs of Benjamin Britten and portrayed Carrie on the new MCA recording of "Carousel". Her 1989 Solo Album "The Songs That Got Away" was also successful in both Britain and the United States.

 

Sarah's latest album contains songs written and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber entitled "Surrender, The Unexpected Songs", and she has also recently co-produced and co-written a Rock Album, which has achieved success in Continental Europe.
