This Rosamunde Pilcher movie offers a very special attraction: Guest starring is the English singer Sarah Brightman who became popular with her song "Time to say goodbye". Having been a fan of Rosamunde Pilcher for many years (and the feeling is mutual by the way!), Sarah Brightman, who lives in the south of England, plays herself in this film. Highlight of this role is a singing performance in the amphitheatre "The Minack Theatre" directly above the sea on the cliffs near Land's End where Cornwall is most beautiful.
After a long time and with mixed feelings, the siblings Jenny, Simon and Patrick Mansley travel to their father's grand estate "Queenswood" in Cornwall. The veterinarian has died and Heather Paddington, his housekeeper and employee at the vet surgery, will read the will. The grown-up children didn't have a good relationship with their father in recent years. Especially Jenny who with her husband James, a lawyer, and their son Phil who lives in London as a fashion designer hold her father and Heather responsible for the suicide of her mother. Back then she observed the couple in a passionate embrace. Ever since then the children believed Heather and their father were having a relationship and their mother ended her life because of it.
Now that the father has died as well, she wants to sell the estate and break with the past. Simon, the oldest of the siblings, works as a top manager for a large concern in London. Out on a walk by the sea he meets a young woman, Kathlin Grey, and rescues her from the sea after a boating accident. It's a fateful encounter with consequences. When Simon falls in love at first sight of this woman, he doesn't know that Kathlin is the girlfriend of his younger brother Patrick. Kathlin is also immediately taken with the charming Simon. At their next encounter, the entire Mansley clan is present. Simon who believes to have found his dream woman is shocked when Patrick introduces Kathlin to him as his future wife. Patrick, a dreamy musician and composer, is neither thinking about Kathlin nor the inheritance. He's busy preparing a composition for Sarah Brightman in order to apply as a composer with her. During the reading of the will, the situation is worsening: The last will determines that the estate may not be sold. Queenswood shall once again become a place of family and the siblings must come to an agreement as to which one of them should take over Queenswood. Should they be unable to come to an agreement, the entire property will fall to the church. Simon, Jenny and Patrick are horrified: An agreement seems impossible... |
