1972 - London West End - The love story of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, I AND ALBERT played at London's Piccadilly Theatre. Lyrics: Lee Adams; book by Jay Presson Allen, playwright (THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE - also film version).
Although Strouse and Adams researched I AND ALBERT for nearly 5 years, London audiences and critics did not take kindly to their efforts. A cast album didn't appear until 1981, when the performers were re-assembled for the last time.
Direction: John Schlesinger, award-winning theatre and film director (SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, DARLING, et al).
