SB:
I don't have to say
A word to you
You seem to know
Whatever mood
I'm going through
Feels as though
I've known you forever
JC:
You
Can look into my eyes and see
The way I feel
And how
The world is treating me
Maybe I have known you forever
SB&JC:
Amigos para siempre
Means you'll always be my friend
Amics per sempre
Means a love that cannot end
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
I feel you near me
Even when we are apart
Just knowing you are in this world
Can warm my heart
Friends for life
Not just a summer or a spring
Amigos para siempre
SB:
We share memories
I won't forget
And we'll share more,
My friend,
We haven't started yet
Something happens
When we're together
JC:
When I look at you
I wonder why
There has to come
A time when we must say goodbye
I'm alive when we are together
SB&JC:
Amigos para siempre

Amics per sempre
Means a love that cannot end

Not just a summer or a spring

Jose Carreras
Biography
Jose Carreras, the brilliant Spanish tenor, has been thrilling opera audiences for years with one of the greatest voices of our time. The story of Carreras's life has all the drama of a classic opera. His illustrious career was almost cut short by a bout with leukemia, but Carreras beat the odds and returned triumphantly to the stage in 1988.
In addition to his great opera performances, Carreras has taken on a number of "crossover" projects, including his highly praised first album for Atlantic Records, 1991's "HOLLYWOOD GOLDEN CLASSICS." Carreras's dazzling new Atlantic album, entitled "AMIGOS PARA SIEMPRE - FRIENDS FOR LIFE: Romantic Songs Of The World," embraces 16 stellar tracks, including 14 timeless international standards sung in their original languages.
The new album was produced by four-time Grammy winning composer/arranger Lalo Schifrin, who recorded most of the material with the London Symphony Orchestra in February of 1992. Schifrin, along with the great Hal David, co-wrote "Share The Dream," one of the album's two original songs. The other, "Amigos Para Siempre (Friends For Life)," is the Official Song of the Barcelona Games. Composed and co-produced by super show-tunesmith Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Don Black, "Amigos Para Siempre" is a soon-to-be classic duet between Carreras and Sarah Brightman. Ms. Brightman, one of the shining lights of the London stage, appeared in the original productions of Cats, Song & Dance, and Phantom Of The Opera.
The single release of "Amigos Para Siempre" coincides with the opening of the 1992 summer games in Carreras's native city of Barcelona. Carreras and Ms. Brightman will perform the song during the closing ceremonies, with a projected worldwide television audience of over three billion people.
"AMIGOS PARA SIEMPRE - FRIENDS FOR LIFE" is a very personal album for Carreras. "All of the songs recorded here are ones that I wanted to sing as a teenager," he states. "It's as if I had reserved these numbers in order to be able to sing them to an audience one day."
With pre-production taking place in Vienna, the bulk of the album was recorded in London and mixed in Hamburg, Germany. "Schifrin's production is what makes this album very special," Carreras enthuses. "He is a true professional. The fine musicians of the London Symphony Orchestra quickly recognized the quality of his arrangements. The sound itself was perfect from the start, and since we all had the same idea of what we wanted to do, all I had to do was to sing as well as I could."
The result is a collection of great performances from a vocalist who is truly world-class.
Since the early 1970s, Jose Carreras has been a vocalist of international stature. Born in Barcelona, Spain, his career truly began when he won the Verdi Contest at Parma in 1971. Shortly thereafter, while still only in his early 20s, he made his international debut in London. Then it was on to Vienna, Milan, New York, Salzburg - with roles in Don Carlos, Aida, Turandot, Carmen, and Pagliacci.
By the early '80s, critics were regularly outdoing each other in lauding Carreras as a singer of unusual depth, talent, and range, while praising his enormous repertoire. And then there were those special projects which found him breaking down the walls between "light" and "serious" music. He recorded West Side Story with Leonard Bernstein, and earned gold and platinum awards for his 1987 recording of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific.
Then disaster struck: as he was in the midst of starring in a film version of La Boheme, Carreras discovered he had leukemia. His career cut short, the tenor spent the next year in the hospital. Many assumed that he would never sing again, and the possibility that he would lose his life was a very real one.
But Carreras triumphed over the disease. And on July 21, 1988, he performed before a cheering crowd of 200,000 in Barcelona, gloriously regaining his rightful place as one of the greatest singers of our era.
In addition to his operatic successes, Carreras continued to pursue his "crossover" interests. 1990 brought gold for his Christmas album, and a collection of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs further broadened Jose's appeal and popularity.
1990 also saw Carreras's performance with fellow tenors Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti at the World Football Cup in Rome. The joint appearance, arranged by Lalo Schifrin, was beamed via satellite to 35 countries. The resulting septupal-platinum album, "CARRERAS, DOMINGO, PAVAROTTI: IN CONCERT," spent months at the top of music charts around the world, earning the trio the kind of adulation and commercial success usually reserved for pop stars.
Carreras's debut Atlantic album, 1991fs "HOLLYWOOD GOLDEN CLASSICS" garnered much praise from critics and fans alike. His new Atlantic album, "AMIGOS PARA SIEMPRE - FRIENDS FOR LIFE," showcases one of the world's great artists, one whose appeal knows no boundaries.
